When we hear the word wellness, many of us think only about physical health.
But true wellness means much more. It’s about how we feel in our body, mind, relationships, work, money matters, and even our surroundings. Just like a full meal thali feels complete only when all items are present, our life feels good when all parts are in balance.
There are 8 dimensions of wellness,
1. Physical Wellness
2. Intellectual Wellness
3. Emotional Wellness
4. Social Wellness
5. Spiritual Wellness
6. Vocational Wellness
7. Financial Wellness
8. Environmental Wellness
1. Physical Wellness
This is about how healthy and energetic we feel in our body. For me, things like eating homemade food, going for a walk, drinking clean water, and sleeping on time help a lot. When our body is happy, everything else feels easier.
Let’s try: Moving our body at least 30 minutes a day – a simple walk, some stretches, or dancing to a song we love.
2. Intellectual Wellness
This is about keeping our brain active and curious. I enjoy reading a few pages from a book or listening to a podcast. Learning new things – even small ones – gives a fresh feeling.
Let’s try: Learning one new thing this week – maybe a recipe, a new word, or a life skill.
3. Emotional Wellness
We all feel emotions – happy, sad, angry, scared. Emotional wellness means understanding these feelings and expressing them in a healthy way. When I feel low, talking to someone I trust or just writing my thoughts helps me feel lighter.
Let’s try: Checking in with ourselves daily – “How am I feeling today?”
4. Social Wellness
Spending time with people who care for us adds so much joy. I’ve realized that even a short phone call with a loved one can lift my mood. Being there for others also helps us feel connected.
Let’s try: Reaching out to someone today, just to say hello or thank you.
5. Spiritual Wellness
This is about feeling peaceful and connected – to nature, to God, to supreme being or just to our inner self. For me, a few minutes of silence or chanting in the morning makes a big difference.
Let’s try: Sitting quietly for 5 minutes a day, with closed eyes and a calm breath.
6. Vocational Wellness
It feels good when we enjoy what we do – whether it’s a job, studies, or housework. I’ve found that doing meaningful work, even in small ways, gives a deep sense of purpose.
Let’s try: Finding joy in our daily tasks, and doing them with love.
7. Financial Wellness
This is about making, using and saving money wisely. I’ve learned that peace of mind comes not from how much we earn, but how we manage and feel content with what we have. Small habits like budgeting and avoiding waste really help.
Let’s try: Tracking our income and outcome for one week – it shows where we can improve.
In the End…
Each type of wellness matters. If even one item is missing, it doesn’t feel complete. So let’s care for all these 8 parts of life.
We deserve a happy, healthy, and peaceful life. And it begins with small changes we make every day.
